Requirements for Pet (Dog and Cat) Export from India under AQCS

1. The animal for the officer’s examination.

2. From any local registered veterinarian, a veterinary health certificate (Fit to fly by road, air, or train).

3. Certificate for microchips.

4. Information regarding the pet’s most recent vaccinations.

5. Copies of the owner’s passports.

6. A copy of the owner’s airline ticket.

7. Airway bill in case the animal is being transported in cargo.

8. If the owner is unable to visit the AQCS, the authorised person must submit a letter of authorisation.

9. Any unique requirements of the importing nation (like- Import permit, Blood titer test etc.).

10. Two 4×6-inch post card-sized photos of the animal with the light facing up.

– Copies of all the documents, along with the originalsmust be delivered to AQCS.

– Export certificates are valid for 10 days after they are issued and after passing an

AQCS exam.

NOTE:

A. To acquire the NOC with advance notice, all of the aforementioned documentation must be delivered to the quarantine office with the pet animal, self-attested/by an authorised person (original, and Xerox copy).

B. The mother’s vaccination record must be produced in addition to the pet if the animal is not of an age to get any vaccinations.

C. Each pet’s information must be entered into the Performa application separately. (Click on Livestock under Applications & Formats).

The pet owners are urged to call or send a letter to the concerned AQCS officer in advance (7 days) to confirm their appointment before visiting.

There are numerous documentation requirements that must be met when transporting a pet from one country to another. Here are a few examples.

NOC- A No Objection Certificate (NOC) is an import permit that is required for any animal movement into or out of the country, regardless of whether the animal is accompanied by baggage or is part of airline cargo.

Quarantine certificate- Before your pets can be moved, you will need to acquire a quarantine certificate from the Animal Quarantine and Certification Service (AQCS). This document ensures that your pet is healthy and does not have any diseases. You will need to get a signed and stamped health certificate from a registered veterinary practitioner.

Microchip- In addition, all pets coming into or leaving India must have a microchip. This is the only form of identification for your pet. ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 are widely used in India.

Required Paperwork/Checks for Importing a Pet Under Baggage Rule for Owners:
Arrival in the Nation:

Required – A copy of the visa or another document proving a continuous stay abroad for at least two years together with evidence that the resident has moved back to India. Advance Custom Permission may be required to consider the pet under the baggage rule in cases of uncertainty or procedural requirements.

CRITERIA FOR PETS

Dogs – The official health certificate from the nation of origin stating that the dog is free of all clinical signs and symptoms of infectious and contagious diseases, such as rabies, canine distemper, parvovirus infection, leptospirosis, etc., for dogs.

Cat – The official health certificate from the cat’s country of origin stating that the feline is free of all clinical signs and symptoms of infectious and contagious diseases, such as leptospirosis, feline enteritis, feline panleukopenia, rabies, and distemper.

Rabies immunization and vaccination history

All information must be officially certified or mentioned in the official Health certificate. The Dog (three months of age and older) and Cat (must be vaccinated against Rabies more than one month but within 12 months prior to actual embarkation). Furthermore, all other vaccination records/details must be officially certified or included in the official Health Certificate.

Owner information is required

For ownership to be established, the name on the ticket and the name on the official health certificate must match. The health certificate must include the owner’s name and address in both the country of origin and the country of arrival (import).

A declaration from the owner that the dog/cat is a genuine pet with no commercial, gift, or breeding intent. Copy of airway bill/journey pet’s details /Bill of entry with customs (If coming as cargo). Any other documents that may be required during the application’s examination. And the letter of authorization (if the owner is not approaching directly).

How Should I Measure My Pet?

1. A is the animal’s total length, measured from tip to tail or base.

2. B = Height from the ground to the elbow joint. A + 1/2 B equals the container’s length.

3. C = Shoulder width or widest point (whichever is greater).The container’s width equals C x 2.

4. D=height of animal in upright position, measured from the top of the head or the ear tip to the floor, whichever is higher, divided by the height of the container (top flat or arched ).
